This program is for UBC TA and WL students only.
This 'Japanese Pronunciation Training' course is designed for self-directed learners who are interested in teaching Japanese pronunciation in the Japanese Language Program at UBC. To teach pronunciation, you have to understand the mechanics of Japanese pronunciation, why certain sounds of Japanese are difficult to distinguish and pronounce for non-native speakers, and what Japanese-like intonation sounds like. Completing this course will help you assist your students' conversation practice smoothly and confidently.
At the end of this course, you will receive a certificate that can be used as a proof of completion of this course.
By the end of the program, you will be able to:
- describe the articulatory properties of the Japanese sounds in the Hiragana diagram
- be aware of their own pronunciation of challenging sounds in Japanese
- identify correct Japanese intonation and accent in basic nouns, verbs, and short sentences
Audience: Closed enrollment, for UBC TA and WL students in the UBC Japanese Language Program
Duration: The course will take ~ 3 hours to complete.
