Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office (released 2026)

This lecture will present in detail how to manage medical emergencies. The signs and symptoms of possible emergencies will be presented so that the participants will be able to differentiate between them.

Correct intervention and specific emergency drugs required for specific emergencies will be presented, especially as they pertain to a dental office and the team.

Emergencies discussed in this presentation will include syncope, angina, myocardial infarction, cardiac arrest, stroke, allergy, asthma, and local anaesthetic toxicity.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

• Understand how and when to use an automated external defibrillator.
• Learn how the acronym, P ABC / CAB D can be applied to managing any emergency.
• Learn which emergency drugs are most important for a dental office and how to store them in an emergency kit.
• Learn specific algorithms for specific emergencies.
