Full course description

Self-paced, short online course, consisting of 4 sequential modules. Starts: February 2023.


COURSE OBJECTIVE:  Students to develop an understanding of the core principles of the ISO 15189:2022 standard (4th edition) and key changes from the 3rd edition which was published in 2012.


TARGET AUDIENCE: laboratory medicine professionals including current laboratory medicine students (BMLSC and MLT), practicing medical laboratory technologists, microbiologists, laboratory directors, laboratory managers, laboratory quality managers, clinical pharmacists, medical residents, pathologists, clinical pathologists, hospital administrators (procurement, care and treatment), and other medical laboratorians who are involved in clinical laboratory testing. Learners will enroll from Canada and across the world.



Demonstrate knowledge of the major principles of the ISO 15189 standard and how it should be applied to a clinical laboratory;

Analyze changes between ISO 15189 standard versions 2012 and 2022;

Evaluate potential applications of the changes outlined in the ISO 15189:2022 standard in your laboratory;

Plan for how you will communicate these changes to your laboratory team and practical implications
