P1B - UBC Gunn IMS Certification Course Winter/Spring 2024-2025
Aug 1, 2024 - Sep 1, 2025
Full course description
Welcome!
Dear IMS students,
Welcome to Part 1B of your UBC Gunn IMS Certification Course! Materials related to these parts of your course will be uploaded here. As we add materials, we will send you notifications to let you know they have been uploaded.
We have already uploaded for you:
- Your course timetable.
- A collection of videos to review prior to attending your Part 1B course. Please find these in the Modules section named "Part 1B Course Preparation: Needle technique, Surface Anatomy, Palpation, Manual Muscle Testing".
Importantly, there is a needle technique video which I encourage you to watch as soon as possible. Needle handling is a motor skill which improves with practice. For those of you who have never needled before, try to get as much practice in as you can before our first in-person course. This will make it much easier for you when the time comes to start inserting needles in people. For those of you who have needled before, please also view the video - we have a specific way of handling needles in Gunn IMS that may not be the same as what you are used to.
There are also a collection of videos that we ask you to review before your first weekend of in-person teaching. It is important that you can accurately locate all the structures that we demonstrate palpating in the videos, with respect to regional orientation, bony marking, identification of areas that require special caution or avoidance, identifications of muscles by manual muscle testing and identification of muscle borders.
We look forward to meeting you all in person soon!
