This one-day virtual continuing professional development program is targeted to pharmacy professionals and all healthcare providers who wish to update their knowledge and skills.

CONFERENCE LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the Conference, learners will be able to:

  1. Manage mild to moderate atopic dermatitis in children, recognize other forms of dermatitis (e.g. seborrheic, contact, dyshidrotic, nummular, and diaper) including distinguishing features, know when to refer patients for evaluation, and understand considerations for systemic therapy and severe atopic dermatitis. 
  2. Describe first-line pharmacotherapy in treating tobacco use disorder, consider non-pharmacological options (including “brief intervention”), recognize “hard-to-treat” populations and off-label approaches, as well as become familiar with the growing use of “vaping”. 
  3. Identify and classify individuals at risk for osteoporosis, develop a comprehensive approach for patients based on current guidelines, and evaluate the role of lifestyle interventions in the management and prevention of osteoporosis. 
  4. Discuss general principles of psychedelic-assisted therapy, describe the mechanism of action of psilocybin and MDMA, outline various Health Canada approved access routes used by patients, and list safety concerns of psilocybin and MDMA that can be minimized with pharmacist involvement.

This conference has been approved for Continuing Education Units (CEU) by the UBC Continuing Pharmacy Professional Development unit.
