Accredited 1 CEU. This course provides an overview of shingles (herpes zoster) and its treatment to aid pharmacists in assessing and prescribing for minor ailments in British Columbia. Learners will become more comfortable collecting information, describing the presentation of shingles, assessing a patient with shingles, and selecting appropriate treatments. Additional topics such as considerations for acute pain and postherpetic neuralgia pain management, and shingles prevention through vaccination are also reviewed. This course includes a simplified assessment approach and end of module case to help learners understand and test their accumulated knowledge and skills.
